Tour de Kolacky Bike Ride

It’s all set. The first annual Czech-Slovak Festival Tour de Kolacky bike ride is ready to roll from the Phillips High School on Saturday, June 15, 2013. Join us for this fun event. Plan for the day and enjoy the meal after the ride, a dip in the Phillips Community Pool or relax in the Hot Tub. Take in all of the Czech-Slovak Festival activities and complete the day in an Old World Beer Garden.

Early Morning Stroll

Our elderly cat needed attention at 5:00 am this morning. As I got out of bed, I happened to look out the window in time to see a large black bear lumbering down the middle of the road. He used the bridge to get across the river than disappeared around a corner. The 6 to 8″ of new snow we received made it easy to track the bear. He had visited the neighbors, including a stroll through our front yard. No picture of the bear but these are his tracks.

Kayak Bushwhacking

Spring Fever!

One of our customers sent us the following comments and video.

Hi
Is this Spring fever? The ice receded from the banks of our lake and we couldn’t tell the boys to wait anymore so yesterday we let them ride the kayaks we bought from you this wintery spring around the perimeter. They loved it and we had a hard time getting them to stop, even though they wore some skin off their hands they would have paddled all day if we let them.

All the stuff (kayak,paddle,vest) worked well together.

Morning Coffee

We took advantage of the sunshine and warmer weather and had our coffee in our kayaks on the river this morning. With the lakes still ice covered, apparently the loons were also enjoying the open water on the river as we saw over a dozen of the large birds on our short morning paddle.

First Paddle of the Season

The temperature was 35 degrees, the ground still snow covered and a cold west wind was blowing up the river. We had a stretch of open water and the sun was shining so it was time to paddle. The ducks and geese were not happy to see us as they noisily took to flight as we approached. It was great to be back in our kayaks once again.
