When Northern Lites use the tagline "Worlds Lightest Snowshoes" this is the one they are talking about. A pair of these snowshoes weighs only 33 ounces (2.1 pounds). To achieve this weight they use a very high strength aluminum alloy that is 40% stronger than the framing typically used on metal-frame snowshoes.
In addition to its light weight the Elite Racer features a great binding system and great traction. The bindings are Northern Lites Trutrack bindings which eliminate slipping between your boot and the snowshoe helping it track straighter and stay tight. TruTrak Bindings have proven to be the industry’s straightest tracking without the need for toe baskets or heel pads. The frame and bindings work together to provide a very well balanced snowshoe with toes that tip-up naturally for easy walking and running, but not too much for backing out of tight spots. A secure, simple, easy to use binding (even with mittens on!). Toe and heel crampons are oversized with de-icing pads, and the exclusive perimeter cleats (placed around the entire snowshoe frame) provide unparalleled traction.
Sizing: This snowshoe is 20" x 8" and complies with the U.S. Snowshoe Association minimum with a surface area of 130 square inches. It is rated for all racer weights.
Typical uses: This snowshoe works best for running, however it can also be used for climbing and hiking. Due to its small size this snowshoe will perform best on established (packed or groomed) trails as it won't provide much flotation on deeper soft snow.
Like all Northen Lites snowshoes its made right down the road from us in Medford, WI!
