At 8" x 25", the Race 25 is not the smallest racing snowshoe, but is well suited for those times you need just a little more flotation. Like when you are leading the pack after some fresh snow. The Race 25 weighs 3.2 lbs and features an aluminum frame with a raised v-tail design, Redfeather's Cross Country binding, a live action hinge, and titanium crampons. The extruded 6000 series aluminum keeps it light while the raised v-tail allows for a smoother stride, especially for running. Redfeather states that the Cross Country binding is the industries lightest binding. The base is constructed of Hypalon II (a light flexible material) and the straps are a flexible but tough urethane that will cinch down to any running shoe or light hiking boot. The combination of the two result in a light but very secure binding that minimizes movement between your shoe and the snowshoe. These bindings are attached to the frame and decking by what Redfeather calls a Live-Action Hinge (you could call it a partially rotating toe cord that lifts the tail of the shoe from the snow with each step for added mobility and speed. Traction is gained with aggressive titanium crampons (strong, light, and just plain cool) under the ball of the foot, as well as under the heel pad.
Sizing: This is a one size fits all snowshoe (Redfeather lists a maximum recommended weight of 225 lbs) and is designed for racing performance on groomed trails. It meets all of the U.S. Snowshoe Association size requirements for sanctioned races.
Once you decide that the Redfeather Race 25 is the racing snowshoe for you, the rest of the selection process is easy as there is only one color and size to choose from. New for 2011, the white frame and black and white striped decking color scheme is eye catching.
