Spring Day in the Northwoods

13_05_23-elk-flambeau-paddle-ride-001-6We were planning an outing this past Friday before the Memorial Day Weekend.  When we woke up, the weather gave us no excuse to cancel.  It was a bit cool but the sun was shining with only a slight breeze.  After a good breakfast we loaded our bikes on the car and drove to our take out point  16 miles down river.  The 22.7 mile bike ride home was beautiful.  The Trillium were in full bloom in the wooded areas along the road.  After lunch at home, we headed out in our kayaks down the Elk and Flambeau rivers back to our car.  The water was high and fast.  The waves at Big Carpenter rapids did manage to dump one of us out of our kayak.  It was a wet ride but lots of fun.  With the kayaks secured on our car, we headed to one of our favorite restaurants for a delicious fish and shrimp dinner.
